About

Child-led pediatric OT in natural environments

Cool Kats OT partners with clever, neurodivergent kids and their families to discover calmer, more manageable days through playful, child-led occupational therapy in natural home and outdoor environments across the Bay Area.

When children explore the outdoors, diverse sights, sounds, and textures activate multiple areas of their brains simultaneously, forging and strengthening the neural connections required for learning, memory, and emotional regulation.

Children learn best when lessons are woven into their daily household routines.

The home provides a natural, comforting environment where everyday activities become powerful opportunities for growth.

A serene outdoor therapy nook on a lush green lawn, centered around a sturdy wooden picnic-style table topped with sensory bins filled with kinetic sand, smooth pebbles, and natural pinecones. Beside the table sits a wobble cushion and a small balance board resting on the grass. In the background, tall trees and a simple wooden fence create a private, natural setting. Soft golden hour sunlight filters through the leaves, casting dappled light and gentle shadows across the scene. Captured from a slightly elevated angle with sharp focus throughout, the composition feels peaceful, grounded, and professional, highlighting nature-based pediatric OT work in clean, realistic photography.

Testimonials

Jingyuan, mother

“My son George was only two years old when he worked with Christine, and she connected with him in such a natural and engaging way. She spent a lot of time doing movement-based and outdoor activities with him that matched his sensory needs and interests. He especially loved when she held him while swinging, going down slides together, and playing outside. During warmer weather, she also incorporated swimming activities very carefully and thoughtfully, which he really enjoyed.

Sometimes, his older sister joined activities too, and Christine always made everyone feel included and supported. We really appreciated her warmth, patience, and genuine care for our family.

George absolutely loved working with Christine and always looked forward to seeing her.”

“I have to say Christine was amazing when she worked with my son in his early developmental years. She helped him thrive with the support of compassion and enthusiasm during his early childhood years from ages 4-5. Over the course of 1.5 years, she worked closely with him using play-based learning, hands-on activities, and encouragement to build foundational skills in occupational therapy including self-help routines, communication, and social engagement.

Christine incorporated the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) strategies and helped support Leo’s transition toward using his AAC device with patience, creativity, and consistency! Through engaging games, sensory activities, and structured daily routines, she fostered his confidence, independence, and joy in learning. Her warmth, positive energy, and genuine enthusiasm created a supportive environment that made a lasting impact on Leo’s growth and development during these important early years.

Any family who works with her has honestly chosen a family member for years to come.”

Tina

“We’ve worked with Christine since Enzo was in preschool, (he’s now 12 years old) and the growth we’ve seen in him is remarkable. She meets Enzo exactly where he is while gently stretching him toward where he can go- and he trusts her completely.

Christine has genuinely shaped the trajectory of our son’s development, and we’re so grateful for her.”

Alberto Carranza, middle school teacher

“Christine has been an incredible support for our Specialized Academic Instruction students through her work as an occupational therapist. She is very attentive to the individual needs of students and does a great job helping them develop the skills they need to be successful in the classroom. I’ve seen her support students with things like fine motor skills, focus, self-regulation, and classroom routines in ways that feel natural and encouraging. For example, during writing activities, she’ll work closely with students who struggle with handwriting (fine motor skills) or organization (executive function development) by providing tools, strategies, and accommodations that help them participate more confidently and independently. She is patient, caring, and always collaborates well with staff to make sure students are getting the support they need to grow academically and socially.”
